Progress Report
I am finally nearing the end of my cover design with only a few moderate changes to make but I am in the middle of organising my contents page and this is my main time fill. I will start my double page spread as soon as I near the end of my contents page.

Cover Changes
This was the original image and title I designed however I eventually decided that this photo was too dull and the font was not easy enough to read. I decided to find a more stand out font to use for my masthead but could not find a brighter/ more colourful photograph so I decided to recolour her dress to help her stand out more.
I settled on this masthead font as it is easy to read and stands out very clearly. To contrast the main sell line from the masthead however I decided to use a different more edgy font. I used white so it would stand out against the green of her dress.
I added the other sell lines and used a maroon colour for them as white did not stand out well on the grey and black made them blend in with the masthead. I kept them in the same font as the main sell line at first.
After class feedback I decided to change the colour of the sell lines to match the green as this would make my cover look more harmonious.
The font I had originally chosen was too difficult to read so I have started to experiment with some other font that will be easier to read and will stand out more clearly against the background.

Progress Made
As of today my cover is almost completed, only a few design changes need to be made before I can get some more feedback and it is time to start piecing my contents page together using the images, text and colours I have planned and already edited ready. I will use my flat plan as a base but will make any changes necessary to ensure my material is used in an effective way.
Contents Image
This is image is suitable for my contents page as it holds eye contact with the audience but at the same time is not a straight up image like my cover photo. It is still clear that she is the same artist but the photo is not too similar. I will use this as the main photo on my contents to help the audience navigate quickly to the main article of my magazine.
Front Cover Draft Class Feedback
After a class feedback session I have learned how to improve this version of my cover to make it more appealing, I have also learned what is good about this cover and should not be changed,
I have had good feedback about the colouring of my magazine but I have been frequently told to try and tie the green that the artist is wearing, in with the sell lines to assure the colour scheme blends together properly.
I have also had some people say the sell line font is quite difficult to read however the other postitive feedback I have had about the modernism and edge of the font is stronger.
Another improvement to be made is the size of the main sell line which I have been advised will be more eye catching in a bigger font but a font which still fits within the artist.
Finally there is a lot of dead space at the bottom which needs filling to balance out the magazines layout.

Colour test
I used to photoshop to recolour my models clothes for this photo as I thought it would be a good idea to practice using technology to adjust things such as the brightness and colour of my models outfit, this meant that on my product I could make my models dress brighter and make it stand out.

Lighting Test
For this I played around with the light brightness and intensity on both sides of my model, from this I learned how to balance my lighting so my model was not badly lit and there were not too many bold shadows in my shot.

Recce - Studio
I will need to ensure I tidy away the cables from equipment such as the lights to ensure that no one will trip or fall as trailing wire are a safety risk. Luckily the time of day will not effect my photos as they are in a windowless room which will be lit using artificial light. I will also be using a white studio which will mean that my background will be exactly as I want it to be. To match this white background I will be using artificial meaning I have total control over the key of my lighting. I have already booked and got a time for the studio I will be using so people crowding my shot or interrupting will not be an issue. I have also got my props and model ready and organised.
I decided to use this studio instead of a room in the college as it was both more professional and easier to set up t equipment in, as well as being easier to book out and ensure no one would interrupt.

Fonts!
ABCDEFGHIJKLM
NOPQRSTUVWXYZ
Little bird - This is a great font to use as my title font for my double page spread. It reflects youth as its like a doodle font. However it might not stand out as much as totally filled in font would due to its sketchiness.
ABCDEFGHIJKLM
NOPQRSTUVWXYZ
Amadeus - This font reflects the magazines theme with the music notes inside of it which will help the audience identify the magazine easily, however this font is not very block and could be difficult to see due to its fancy fill.
ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZ
Comet- This is a very bold font and would stand out well against my white background however some of the letter have parts missing and this may make it difficult to read. However The negative version of the font is better.
abcdefghijklm
nopqrstuvwxyz
Pick of Destiny - Another font that implies the music theme of my magazine but with more subtlety and maturity than the other and although some of the letters a difficult to interpret, it stands out very clearly.
abcdefghijklm
nopqrstuvwxyz
ABCDEFGHIJKLM
NOPQRSTUVWXYZ
Waterline - This very bold font would stand out brilliantly against my white background, easily attracting the audiences attention however the gaps in the letters may mean the letters are not very easy to read.
ABCDEFGHIJKLM
NOPQRSTUVWXYZ
Ridiculousness - Although some of the letters are not appropriate to my genre, the letters I will not likely be using fit well and are quirky. They stand out well and the O in this set seems to fit into the music theme.

with this problem

|
Front cover images
|
I may experience
problems with my cover image such as struggling to get a studio at the time
my model is available, to over come this I may have to take my photographs in
a different location or use a different model. However to completely avoid
this problem I should ensure that I plan ahead.
I may also struggle
to find the exact costume I wanted but as long as the outfit I use is in keeping
with the genre and colour scheme the problem will be overcome

Article Inside
Magazine
|
With the article
being completely fictional I may struggle to think up believable content for
some sections however I can gather ideas from other similar articles to
ensure that I do not write in anything unrealistic and make the article more
interesting.
|
|
Images to accompany
article
|
My article will
match my front page meaning I will need images similar to those on my cover.
This will mean I will need more time in the studio to take extra photos and
getting the studio for a large amount of time may be difficult however if I
plan ahead I will be able to book the studio for as long as I need.
